OUTHOUSES, PUKE, AND A HAT IN THE TOLIET
OUTHOUSES, PUKE, AND A HAT IN THE TOLIET: A day in life of Auntie jenny and The African Children's Choir traveling through the mountains of BC.
So today was an interesting day. We had a 5 hour drive through the mountains. We try to stop every 2-2 1/2 hours for a potty break. This can be pretty challenging sometimes. The best place to stop is a rest area because they usually have lots of toliets and when you are taking 26 kids to the bathroom the # of toliets is vitally important. But many times their aren't rest stops available so we try for restaurants or as a last resort, gas stations. Gas stations are usually pretty funny because if it is a town small enough to not even have a restaurant then it is a teeny tiny town. Usually the kids end up singing for all the workers and end up with some kind of free food. Today we had a different experience. We saw a sign for a rest area so Vic pulled the bus in. Back in the trees we saw 2 little outhouses! So all the kids piled out into the snow to freeze their little kabinas (rear ends)!
The next funny thing that started happening was that about half the choir began to get sick from the winding roads. This is not new to us since when the kids first came to the US they had very rarely road in a vehicle. We have a little system and hand out ziplock bags when kids are feeling sick. If they vomit they vomit in the bag, zip it up, and then one of us throws it in the trash. Somehow Terese ends up spending alot of time being on "puke patrol". Today I somehow got way too involved and ended up delivering 5-6 bags of puke to the garbage can. Not so fun!
Since this was a long drive we ended up having a second potty break. For this one we stopped at a Dairy Queen. I was pretty happy because I hadn't had a soda all day and they actually had Mt. Dew. The next thing I knew Julian came to me saying her hat fell in the toliet! What a great day!
